“Hey, do you have any recommendations for lights for video? And if so, is there any way I can connect this light to my DSLR anywhere besides the shoe mount if there is something in the shoe mount already, like a Mic or something? Thanks!
Here are my recommendations. I’m all about saving money so these are some cheap but good solutions. Of course if you can afford the $800+ rig pictured above go for it…but honestly you save your $$$ and put it towards better things!
Yeah man! There’s a few different options for lights and for connecting it to your camera with the mic as well. For skate/scooter type filming I’d recommend the Opteka X-Grip [http://goo.gl/jPqTO ] plus some wrist weights to get that angle without straining your wrist. More on that here: [ http://goo.gl/vE7Au ] The grip allows you to have two shoe mounts one for the mic and one for the light.
Other options would be a bottom/side bracket of some sort. This one is cheap but sturdy: [http://goo.gl/Mg3m0 ] Here’s a similar one that comes with a light [ http://goo.gl/jvqHI ].
And a few more options. The triple: [ http://goo.gl/bsS2a ], the double: [ http://goo.gl/40DNZ ], and the horizontal: [ http://goo.gl/FF3Su ]And then onto lights:
I owned this light for a while: [ http://goo.gl/J3QPO ] It’s used in this videohttp://youtu.be/L3aT1n2AMGM
It’s a great little light for the price. The battery lasts somewhat long, only thing is it is little. It is bright but the range isn’t super far, so you have to always be close to your subjects at night.
Some other lights to consider would be the Newwer Dimmable LED light [ http://goo.gl/PmnNd ] or if you’re looking for bigger ones, these come in 126, 160, and 198
[ http://goo.gl/YdTSs ]
There are honestly tons of options for lights, I would definitely read reviews and check out Cheesy Cam’s gear section [ http://cheesycam.com/gear/ ] for more options and in depth reviews. We want our Facebook page, like this blog, to be about you guys! So feel free to share whatever you want on there, ask questions, etc! You can also ask questions through Tumblr if that’s what you fancy, but facebook I’ll probably get back to you sooner. :)

My friend found this on Reddit, and I thought it was too cool to share. I hope someone thinks of me this way one day. He said the title was “Kind of a Love Letter.”
